Associate or Senior Editor, Genome Biology

Location: Hybrid working from the London or Shanghai office

What you will do

• Evaluate original research manuscripts for quality, novelty, scientific impact, and suitability for publication.
• Manage manuscript selection, peer review, editorial decisions, publication workflows, and timelines.
• Collaborate with authors, reviewers, Editorial Board members, the Chief Editor, and internal teams.
• Represent Genome Biology and BMC at conferences and within the global research community.
• Attract high-quality submissions, commission reviews and special collections, and support the journal’s development strategy.
• Contribute to editorial policies, scientific content, publishing processes, and knowledge exchange across the editorial team.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics or computational genomics, including artificial intelligence, large language models or machine learning; regulatory genomics, gene regulation or epigenetics; or genome evolution and population genomics.
• Broad scientific interests and a passion for science and open access publishing.
• Ability to critically assess manuscripts for scientific impact.
• Effective time management and prioritisation, with the ability to balance short-term deadlines and long-term goals.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with colleagues at all levels.
• Eagerness to travel worldwide to meet scientists, learn about their research, and represent the journal and BMC.
• Customer-focused attitude and flexible mindset.
• Substantial editorial experience is required for candidates applying for the Senior Editor position.

• Interest in open access publishing.
• Knowledge of editorial processes.
• Significant editorial experience may support consideration for a Senior Editor position but is not required for the Associate Editor application.
