Junior Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid, with at least three days per week in the London office

hirify.global is a UK fintech using AI and Open Banking data to provide fair, affordable personal finance and improve lending decisions.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend features across the lending lifecycle, from customer onboarding and affordability assessment to loan payouts and collections.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including design, testing, code review, and deployments.
• Write and improve well-tested Python and Java code and SQL queries for Postgres databases.
• Build and improve React frontend features while developing full-stack capability.
• Work with Product, Design, and internal users to translate requirements into software and improve customer experience.
• Troubleshoot customer-impacting system issues as part of a supported business-hours rota and gradually take ownership of platform areas.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent experience from a degree, bootcamp, internships, or personal projects.
• Working knowledge of both Java and Python, with the ability to write and debug code.
• Hands-on experience building frontend interfaces with React.
• Understanding of data structures, object-oriented design, and unit testing.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases, plus Git for version control.
• Interest in fintech and financial products, strong attention to detail, and good problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, work through a large evolving codebase, take initiative, communicate clearly, accept feedback, and collaborate effectively.
• Willingness to work across backend services, databases, and frontend systems.
• Ability to work from the London office at least three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with async Python or frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Basic familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure, or Docker.
• Knowledge of lending products or Open Banking.
