Network Engineer (Remote Opportunity) (Federal Healthcare)

Location: Remote within the continental US, with occasional travel as required; San Antonio, TX listed as the location.

What you will do

• Design, configure, and maintain enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, WAN, LAN, wireless, and hybrid cloud networks.
• Implement network security controls including firewall rules, VPNs, IDS/IPS, segmentation, encryption, and Zero Trust practices.
• Manage F5 load-balancing platforms and support high availability, application delivery, network upgrades, migrations, and Azure-based modernization.
• Monitor traffic, investigate root causes, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and provide Tier III escalation support using SolarWinds, Nagios, and Wireshark.
• Maintain network diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures while participating in change control, risk assessments, and disaster recovery planning.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and non-technical stakeholders; mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline; eight additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer supporting enterprise-scale environments.
• Hands-on expertise with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches, firewalls such as Palo Alto, Check Point, and Cisco ASA, and VPN solutions.
• Proficiency with F5 LTM/GTM/DNS, including persistence, SSL offload, and traffic steering.
• Knowledge of WAN optimization, MPLS, QoS, and BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP routing protocols.
• Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or similar cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, and software-defined networking.
• Strong understanding of network security, Zero Trust, encryption, and segmentation; experience with SolarWinds, Nagios, and Wireshark.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE, PCNSE, F5-CTS, or other relevant certifications.
• Experience with healthcare IT systems, EHR platforms, federal data environments, VA systems, policies, or compliance frameworks.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools for network automation, monitoring, AIOps, log and packet analysis, documentation, and network configuration validation.
• Understanding of secure connectivity to cloud AI endpoints, data egress controls, segmentation, and responsible use of agency-approved AI tools in federal environments without exposing configurations, credentials, or PHI/PII.
