Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Scala/Golang)

What you will do

• Own backend projects in the Content Catalog domain from discovery through implementation and handover.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Analyze systems, services, and data flows to improve architecture, integrations, migrations, and backend solutions.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to define requirements, scope, delivery plans, and technical solutions.
• Communicate architectural decisions, trade-offs, risks, and progress to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ensure code quality, service reliability, performance, maintainability, monitoring, documentation, and continuity during technical changes.

Requirements

• Extensive experience developing and operating backend services and APIs in production environments at scale.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Java, Scala, Go (Golang), or a similar language.
• Solid understanding of API design, schema evolution, and backward compatibility.
• Experience with data modelling, including versioning, auditability, and efficient querying.
• Familiarity with data pipelines and the differences between real-time and batch processing.
• Experience with system integrations, migrations, and distributed backend architectures.
• Ability to navigate complex or unfamiliar codebases and quickly understand new technical domains.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, collaboration, ownership, and prioritization skills in ambiguous and evolving environments.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to different audiences and take responsibility for the long-term reliability and quality of technical solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated, compliance-sensitive, or highly governed environments.
• Understanding of policy logic, enforcement processes, and regulatory reporting.
• Experience developing systems where data traceability, accuracy, and auditability are particularly important.
