Senior Backend Engineer (TypeScript/Node)

What you will do

• Build and evolve services across the learning platform, owning them from API contract through production operation.
• Design API and data contracts with type-safe transformations between API, domain, and persistence layers.
• Take ownership of existing services alongside their original authors.
• Instrument services, understand failure modes, safely change live data, and investigate production incidents.
• Use coding agents in daily development and verify their output before relying on it.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on backend engineering experience with TypeScript and Node as the primary working languages.
• Deep practical AWS experience in a serverless-first environment, including designing with Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and event streaming.
• Ability to design API and data contracts and model domains with type-safe transformations across API, domain, and persistence boundaries.
• Production ownership experience: instrumenting services, understanding failure modes, changing live data safely, and handling incidents.
• Daily experience with coding agents and the judgment to validate their output.
• Ability to work independently in unfamiliar codebases and adapt to their existing structure.
• Working familiarity with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines sufficient to ship and modify service delivery.
• Python is welcome as a secondary language; some services are written in Python.

Nice to have

• Go or Rust experience for performance-critical components.
• Experience with a monorepo build system and shared tooling.
• Public technical work, such as open-source contributions or technical writing.
