Engineering Manager - Machine Learning (AI)

Location: Hybrid in commuting distance of London, with more days in-office than remote; remote applicants are accepted within the UK.

What you will do

• Manage individual contributors across two established Applied Machine Learning squads covering American football and ice hockey.
• Deliver quarterly commitments, resolve unknowns, engage stakeholders, and prioritize high-impact work.
• Set engineering and data science standards while balancing model precision, execution speed, and cloud infrastructure costs.
• Lead efforts to maintain model accuracy across diverse real-world camera footage and environmental conditions.
• Collaborate with product stakeholders, cross-functional partners, and leaders to align roadmaps and resolve dependencies.
• Foster an empowered, supportive environment that enables team performance and professional growth.

Requirements

• Experience managing teams of individual contributors, including engineers and data scientists, with a focus on helping teammates grow.
• Experience building and deploying production machine learning systems and computer vision models at scale.
• Ability to advance data science modeling while building scalable, efficient software with attention to speed and cost.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical trade-offs and building relationships with cross-functional partners.

Nice to have

• Experience applying AI, machine learning, or computer vision to sports performance or analytics.
• Experience building or fine-tuning real-time data processing pipelines or high-volume parallel cloud workloads.
