Manager, Machine Learning Engineering, Checkout (Machine Learning)

Location: Remote UK; other locations include Remote Poland and Remote Spain.

Base pay range per year: £142,000–£190,000.

What you will do

• Lead a team of machine learning engineers building models that support credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia.
• Set the team’s technical strategy and connect engineering work to business-critical underwriting projects.
• Design, implement, and scale advanced machine learning solutions using novel techniques and rich data representations.
• Partner with engineering, product, design, analytics, and risk teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Clarify technical risks and trade-offs, establish sustainable operational processes, and contribute to the long-term machine learning strategy.
• Develop engineers through feedback, guidance, mentoring, and hands-on technical leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 8+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Background in financial services, specifically credit or lending.
• Proficiency in machine learning, including tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.
• Strong engineering skills and the ability to provide hands-on technical leadership across code and architecture.
• Comfort working through ambiguity, from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems.
