Database Specialist (Microsoft SQL Server)

Location: Bogotá, Colombia; hybrid work model with 4 days onsite and 1 day remote

What you will do

• Perform routine Microsoft SQL Server administration, including backups, restores, integrity checks, index maintenance, statistics updates, patching, and scheduled maintenance.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and storage capacity; troubleshoot failures, connectivity issues, slow queries, and performance bottlenecks.
• Support incidents, service requests, access management, database restores, data updates, schema modifications, releases, deployments, migrations, and non-production environments.
• Apply database changes through established change management processes and escalate complex issues with appropriate analysis and diagnostics.
• Support database security, audit, validation, compliance, documentation, and operational knowledge management.
• Contribute to root cause analysis and recommend improvements to database operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 1–4 years of experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Knowledge of T-SQL querying, database fundamentals, backup and recovery, and maintenance processes.
• Basic knowledge of indexing, query performance, database optimization, roles, permissions, and authentication.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and ticket management systems.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow established operational procedures and collaborate with global teams.
• Advanced written and verbal English proficiency is required to communicate with global stakeholders.
• The role requires 4 days onsite and 1 day remote in Bogotá, Colombia.

Nice to have

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), or Data Fundamentals (DP-900).
• ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Data+, or Network+ certification.
• Experience supporting regulated environments and compliance-driven operations.
• Experience with PowerShell or automation scripting.
• Exposure to Azure SQL or cloud database technologies.
