Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: New York City, United States; four days per week in the Flatiron office and one remote day.

Salary: $225,000–$325,000 base salary per year plus meaningful early equity.

hirify.global builds AI-powered software for roofing, HVAC, plumbing, remodeling, and other home-service businesses, helping them manage customer conversations, appointments, and experiences across voice, SMS, and email.

What you will do

• Build event pipelines that ingest CRM changes through webhooks, event streams, and polling, maintain accurate state, and trigger AI-agent workflows.
• Develop APIs and services for customer lookup, availability checks, appointment booking, and CRM updates.
• Design reliable processing for ordering, deduplication, retries, rate limits, concurrency, backpressure, recovery, and replay.
• Build and maintain integrations with ServiceTitan, LeadPerfection, AccuLynx, Salesforce, i360, Builder Prime, and SalesRabbit.
• Protect customer data through sound data models, secure authentication, credential handling, and correct routing across accounts, brands, and locations.
• Own production reliability through instrumentation, tests, alerts, reconciliation, recovery tools, and collaboration with agent engineers, product, and forward-deployed engineers.

Requirements

• Substantial experience building and operating production backend systems, including explaining ownership, design decisions, failure behavior, and improvements.
• Strong distributed-systems judgment and experience with asynchronous processing, queues or streams, concurrency, consistency, and retries.
• Experience building reliable integrations with external APIs and working across unfamiliar data models, constraints, and business rules.
• Strong programming and SQL skills, including data modeling, transactions, production debugging, and effective work in Python backend systems.
• Ownership, end-to-end problem investigation, early risk identification, and clear communication of technical tradeoffs.
• Interest in working at an early-stage startup with broad responsibility, rapid iteration, and high standards.
• Expected to use AI programming tools effectively while owning the quality of the work.

Nice to have

• Experience with CRM, scheduling, payments, or other operational systems where data correctness and reliable actions matter.
• Experience with change data capture, synchronization, backfills, or reconciliation across external systems.
• Experience building tools or APIs used by AI agents.
• Experience at a strong startup or on a small team with substantial ownership.
