Network Engineer

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, United States of America; hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week

Salary: $70–$82 per hour

What you will do

• Design, implement, administer, support, and optimize enterprise VMware solutions and virtual environments.
• Create technical design, deployment, and support documentation.
• Monitor infrastructure, perform capacity planning, troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and virtualization issues, and implement solutions.
• Support disaster recovery, failover planning, system upgrades, testing, and maintenance of enterprise systems and applications.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, application, vendor, and support teams while managing projects, tickets, priorities, and stakeholder communication.
• Follow information security practices, contribute to operational improvements, and participate in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 13+ years of overall IT experience, including 3+ years of government experience in federal, state, or local municipality environments.
• VMware Certified Professional certification or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of VMware administration experience, including 8+ years supporting enterprise VMware and SAN environments and 8+ years administering VMware ESX.
• Experience with capacity planning and infrastructure analysis.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-resolution, customer service, communication, interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to safely perform the essential job functions, including sedentary computer-based work and occasional movement for meetings and support activities.

Nice to have

• Experience in NIST, PCI, or IRS Publication 1075 regulated environments.
• PowerShell scripting and change management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows Server 2012, 2016, and 2019.
• Hands-on experience with networking and server operating systems.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, network hardware, and internet standards.
• Experience with network automation technologies.
• Background supporting security, encryption, and enterprise networking solutions.
