Network Engineer V (IPv6 SME)

Location: Onsite in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. Part-time, 20 hours per week. Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Salary: $72.25–$85.00 per hour; the role is also listed as $72–$78 per hour W-2.

What you will do

• Provide network management and IPv6 architecture design support for the Department of HUD.
• Lead IPv6 implementation and augmentation in the existing environment.
• Act as a senior technical advisor, lead architecture discussions, challenge designs, and identify risks and dependencies.
• Develop remediation strategies and lead complex troubleshooting efforts.
• Coordinate across teams, mentor personnel, and brief senior stakeholders.
• Support HLDs, LLDs, network diagrams, implementation plans, technical standards, assessments, gap analyses, root-cause analyses, and technical risk assessments.

Requirements

• 10 years of professional experience in network engineering, network architecture, or related telecommunications/infrastructure disciplines.
• At least 5 years of IPv6 experience covering architecture, addressing, routing, implementation, migration, dual-stack environments, and troubleshooting.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills, including communication with agency leaders.
• Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting enterprise-scale IP networks.
• Experience with enterprise routing and switching and BGP, OSPF/OSPFv3, EIGRP, IS-IS, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP/DHCPv6, ICMP/ICMPv6, TCP/IP, and SNMP.
• Experience with firewalls, access control, segmentation, security monitoring, Cisco, F5, and CrowdStrike.
• Experience supporting network modernization, migration, or transformation in large, complex data center, cloud, LAN/WAN, remote-access, or Internet environments.
• Experience architecting and implementing zero trust solutions.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline is preferred; equivalent education, training, certifications, and professional experience may be considered subject to Government/Contractor approval.

• Federal Government network engineering, IPv6 mandates or standards, or enterprise IPv6 readiness initiatives.
• Enterprise IPv6 adoption or migration roadmaps and IPv6-only environments.
• AWS, Microsoft Azure, or equivalent cloud networking; data center networking and virtualization.
• IPv6 integration with firewalls, load balancers, DNS/DHCP, identity and access control, security, monitoring, and management platforms.
• Network disaster recovery, resiliency, continuity, automation, modernization, or technology refresh experience.
• Relevant certifications such as CCIE/CCNP, JNCIP/JNCIE, recognized IPv6 credentials, Azure Network Engineer, AWS Advanced Networking, CISSP, Security+, or equivalent.
