Contract Student Worker - Software Engineer (TypeScript/Python)

Location: On-site in Foster City or San Diego, California, United States

Employment type: Contract student worker; minimum three-month assignment and 40 hours per week.

What you will do

• Build and maintain full-stack QA applications using TypeScript for frontend and backend development and Python for non-frontend services.
• Design and implement test, integration, and end-to-end frameworks and pipeline automation under senior-engineer guidance.
• Contribute to agent-assisted tooling, including LLM-based classifiers, structured tool interfaces, and evaluation scripts for existing agentic workflows.
• Write unit and integration tests, fix bugs, and improve the reliability of existing tools.
• Collaborate with leads, customers, and cross-functional teams to understand test and triage pain points and build solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree completed, in progress, or recently completed in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in software engineering.
• Working proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Familiarity with React or a similar frontend framework, REST APIs, and Git/version control.
• Ability to work independently on well-scoped tasks and ask clarifying questions when requirements are ambiguous.
• Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn from senior engineers.
• Currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program in a relevant discipline.
• Ability to work on-site at one of the office locations and commit to at least 40 hours per week.
• Must comply with confidentiality requirements and may not use or share proprietary Zoox information outside the company, including in academic research, theses, publications, or presentations.
