Principal Quality Engineer (Payments)

What you will do

• Design, architect, and build scalable unit, integration, API, UI, mobile, end-to-end, and regression test frameworks and suites.
• Define and drive test automation strategy, standards, architecture, tooling, and roadmap across engineering teams.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines with quality gates, reporting, and code coverage metrics.
• Create test plans, test cases, simulators, and test data strategies for payment, security, compliance, third-party, and payment-terminal workflows.
• Improve automation reliability, performance, and maintainability by reducing flaky tests and execution time.
• Lead technical reviews, influence quality practices, and mentor quality engineers and software developers.

Requirements

• BS/BA in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering or software development, with a strong focus on test automation, including 3+ years in a senior, lead, or principal-level role responsible for automation strategy and architecture.
• Strong programming experience in at least one object-oriented language, such as Java, C#, or Python.
• Hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks from the ground up.
• Experience with UI and mobile automation tools including Selenium, Playwright, Appium, and Espresso.
• Strong experience testing RESTful APIs that consume or provide JSON or XML.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with source control tools such as Git.
• Knowledge of software architecture, coding standards, unit/system testing, comprehensive test strategy design, troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis of complex distributed systems.
• Strong written and verbal English communication, excellent multitasking skills, and the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Payment-system testing experience, including EMV, P2PE, POS/payment terminals, printers, peripheral devices, and unattended or kiosk-mode solutions.
• Experience with TCP/IP, USB, Bluetooth, or serial protocols for automated testing of external devices.
• Understanding of data security, encryption, PCI/EMV compliance, data privacy, and compliance validation through testing.
• Experience with performance, load, and security testing tools such as JMeter, k6, or Gatling.
• Android or iOS mobile test automation experience; experience building simulators, mocks, or service virtualization solutions.
• Experience with BDD and Cucumber, Agile/Scrum/Kanban, Azure Pipelines, SonarQube, code coverage, Azure DevOps, and Jira.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development and testing tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing quality culture across multiple teams and disciplines.
