Assistant Project Manager (Mining)

Location: Arizona; work at mining sites or regional offices with frequent travel to mine sites

What you will do

• Support mining construction, infrastructure, expansion, rehabilitation, and capital improvement projects from startup through execution, commissioning, and closeout.
• Maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, resource plans, milestones, KPIs, and project documentation.
• Coordinate operations, engineering, procurement, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
• Monitor costs, labor, equipment productivity, materials, change orders, contracts, and schedule risks.
• Support contractor mobilization, site access, procurement, vendor evaluation, performance tracking, and scope-change negotiations.
• Promote compliance with MSHA, OSHA, environmental, permit, company, and site-specific requirements, including safety meetings, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of project coordination, construction, mining operations, engineering, or related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and mining industry experience may be considered.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Project, and experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent scheduling software.
• Understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, and cost controls.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong organization, time management, communication, problem-solving, critical-thinking, attention-to-detail, prioritization, collaborative leadership, and team-building skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced mining environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work in active surface and underground mining environments, walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, access operational areas, wear PPE, travel, and work extended schedules when required.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting capital projects, mine development, processing facilities, or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with surface or underground mining operations.
• Experience with ERP, procurement, or project management systems.
• Mining industry experience.
• MSHA certification or ability to obtain it.
• PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience managing contractors in mining, construction, or industrial environments.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment, mine infrastructure, processing facilities, or mine development projects.
