Principal Engineer (AI)

Location: New York City, NY; hybrid schedule with 3 in-office days per week. NYC-based candidates or candidates open to relocation to the United States are preferred.

Salary: $250K–$300K, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Own the architecture of the monorepo, including patterns, module boundaries, domain abstractions, refactors, and migrations.
• Design agent-ready monorepo packages, ownership models, build graphs, and conventions.
• Build shared platform services, infrastructure, data access, background jobs, environments, and observability.
• Define and evolve the agentic software development lifecycle from ticket to production.
• Build AI-assisted code review, test generation, and CI gates while defining where human review is required.
• Deploy background agents for scoped tickets, flaky-test triage, dependency upgrades, migrations, incident fixes, and error reports.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including setting technical direction across multiple teams.
• Experience owning architecture for a large, multi-team codebase and leading organization-wide migrations.
• Experience with monorepo tooling such as Nx, Turborepo, Bazel, or similar.
• Strong depth in cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and production services operated through real incidents.
• Ability and willingness to work across the stack as a product engineer, from data models to UI.
• Current agent-first software development practice, with a large share of shipped code produced using AI coding agents and specific experience identifying their failure modes.
• Knowledge of context engineering, agent instructions and skills, MCP, sandboxed execution, and evaluating coding-agent output.
• Ability to influence through demonstrated judgment, working code, and clear writing.
