Hardware Characterization Automation Co-op (Winter 2027)

Location: Ottawa, Canada; occasional onsite work at the Ottawa campus is required.

Hourly pay: CAD 25.50–35.00.

What you will do

• Add features to a hardware development testing automation framework using C#, Python, and Java.
• Use test equipment and automation software to test and verify changes.
• Gather testing requirements from team members and specifications.
• Write Excel VBA macros to simplify functions and potentially import or export data through database routines.
• Collaborate on testing telecommunications technologies, including 400G pluggable optics and proprietary WL5e Line optics.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in a Computer Science or Engineering degree program.
• Programming experience with Java, C#, Python, Microsoft .NET, and Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Understanding of object-oriented software development concepts.
• Four-month work term starting in January 2027.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of JavaScript, Node, Git, Arduino controllers, and Excel VBA.
• Experience interfacing with test equipment through Ethernet and GPIB.
• Self-motivation, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for software development and willingness to learn.
