Company

Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases provides high-pressure and cryogenic systems, pumps, heat exchangers, process systems, turboexpanders, and services for LNG, hydrogen, CNG, and industrial-gas applications. It is a subsidiary of Nikkiso Company Ltd, a publicly traded industrial manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

What you will do

  • Lead HAZOP, HAZID, What-If, FMEA, LOPA, and Bowtie studies for approved product scopes.
  • Confirm study maturity, scope, documentation, participants, facilitators, recorders, and SIL evaluators under the TEC framework.
  • Assess hazards, consequences, likelihood, and safeguards; coordinate alarms, interlocks, shutdown, relief, detection, and safety-instrumented risk reduction.
  • Assign and track action owners, priorities, deadlines, closure evidence, and escalation of unresolved actions before project milestones.
  • Support design, constructability, commissioning-readiness, management-of-change, new-technology, operating-procedure, permitting, and proposal safety reviews.
  • Maintain global study methods, training, tools, standards plans, controlled records, approvals, and lessons learned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Safety Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of engineering and process-safety experience, preferably in energy, chemical processing, industrial gas, or other high-hazard industries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading HAZOP and HAZID studies and assessing hazards, risks, and engineered safeguards.
  • Ability to review PFDs, P&IDs, control philosophies, cause-and-effect diagrams, and other safety documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Strong multidisciplinary coordination, technical writing, presentation, and facilitation skills; willingness to travel as required.
  • Experience applying management-of-change processes and verifying documented closure of hazard-study actions.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer credential or equivalent; CCPSC, CFSE, TÜV Functional Safety Engineer, or comparable certification.
  • Experience with SIL verification, quantitative risk or consequence modeling, and inherently safer design.
  • Experience with hydrogen, energy storage, renewable fuels, carbon capture, or other emerging clean-energy technologies.
  • Experience with PHA software, commissioning/start-up, and developing corporate process-safety practices.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time onsite role in Huntington Beach, California.
  • Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and an inclusive workplace.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Role includes travel as required.
