Backend Engineer (Space Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Build and operate backend features that collect, manage, and surface infrastructure data across the full mission lifecycle.
• Design and implement APIs and integrations connecting tools and data across teams and systems.
• Partner with program management, satellite engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to translate mission and business processes into reliable software.
• Analyze backend workflows and UI/UX friction, then deliver solutions that reduce complexity for teams building and operating space infrastructure.
• Own features from design through production operations and advocate for effective collaboration across functions.

Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in Python for backend engineering.
• Practical experience using Docker for containerization and deployment in scalable environments.
• Experience with backend architecture, API design, and robust database interactions.
• Hands-on experience building, operating, or integrating technologies for space missions.
• Ability to dissect complex business and technical processes, map them end to end, and identify friction points and solution opportunities.
• Clear communication of complex ideas and effective collaboration across engineering, operations, and business functions.
• Proactive problem-solving, respectful challenge of assumptions, and ownership of features through production operations.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience designing, modeling, or analyzing space missions and understanding mission lifecycle complexity.
• Proficiency with Django and GraphQL, plus familiarity with GCP, AWS, or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with PyTest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress, and strong CI/CD practices.
