Payroll Specialist

Location: Hybrid role based in Naperville, Illinois, with on-site presence required; other listed locations are Schaumburg, Illinois, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States.

Salary: $30–$33 per hour.

What you will do

• Process assigned full-cycle payrolls across multiple frequencies, entities, business units, and employee populations.
• Compile, review, and validate hours, earnings, deductions, tax elections, adjustments, commissions, and timekeeping data.
• Perform payroll runs, off-cycle payments, corrections, audits, reconciliations, year-end W-2 validation, reporting, and documentation.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and data integrity across HRIS and payroll platforms while following federal, state, and local requirements.
• Resolve routine-to-moderately complex payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries through ServiceNow and other channels.
• Monitor payroll cycles, identify recurring issues or inefficiencies, and collaborate with Finance, business leaders, and Payroll leadership.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in payroll, HR, accounting, finance, or related operations.
• Demonstrated experience with multi-state payroll processing or high-volume payroll environments.
• Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven attention to detail and accuracy in transactional work.
• Ability to manage multiple payroll cycles and deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data validation, formulas, and reconciliation support.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Workday, ADP, UKG, or a similar payroll system.
• Experience with multi-entity payroll structures or complex payroll inputs.
• Full-cycle, high-volume payroll experience supporting approximately 3,000 employees.
• Exposure to payroll compliance, audits, and reporting.
• Experience in a centralized payroll function supporting distributed business units.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
