Chief Information Security Officer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Reston, Virginia, United States, with offices in Reston and Austin and remote options.

What you will do

• Define and execute the information security strategy aligned with business and product objectives.
• Build, lead, mentor, and scale the security organization and its programs and controls.
• Lead security architecture and engineering across public cloud, government cloud, on-premises, air-gapped, and edge environments.
• Oversee threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, risk management, vendor risk, and supply chain security.
• Embed security across software and AI product lifecycles, including data ingestion, labeling, training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Act as the primary security liaison for enterprise and government customers, audits, accreditations, government engagements, and external industry events.

Requirements

• 10+ years of cybersecurity experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role such as CISO, VP Security, or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance and satisfy U.S. government international trade authorization requirements. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.
• Experience building and leading teams responsible for security programs at scale.
• Strong experience securing AWS, Azure, GCP, AWS GovCloud, and Azure Government environments.
• Deep familiarity with AI-driven products and their full lifecycle, including data pipelines, labeling or annotation, model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of government and defense frameworks, including NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, CMMC, and security planning documentation.
• Experience building and operating security programs for enterprise and government customers.
• Understanding of zero trust architectures, identity and access management, endpoint security, secure software development, and CI/CD security integration.
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident response and manage high-severity security events, with excellent communication skills for technical, executive, and government stakeholders.

• Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
• Previous Facility Security Officer experience.
• Experience securing AI/ML systems against adversarial threats, model inversion, and data poisoning.
• Background in defense, intelligence, or national security environments.
• Experience achieving and maintaining FedRAMP Authorization or similar government accreditations.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and their secure use.
• CISSP, CISM, or equivalent industry certification.
• Experience scaling security organizations in high-growth technology companies and securing air-gapped or highly regulated environments.
• External thought leadership experience, including conference speaking or industry forums.
