Head of Security (IoT)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, United States

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Define and execute a multi-year enterprise and product security roadmap, presenting security posture, program maturity, and risk exposure to executive leadership and the board.
• Embed security across smart electrical panels, embedded firmware, cloud infrastructure, mobile applications, and the product development lifecycle.
• Oversee threat modeling, penetration testing, OTA update security, cryptographic key management, embedded communications, cloud-to-device channels, and application security tooling.
• Secure AI and machine learning infrastructure through ML threat modeling, model integrity controls, adversarial-input protection, data governance, and privacy guardrails.
• Lead enterprise security operations, Zero Trust adoption, endpoint defense, identity and access management, vulnerability management, PSIRT, incident response, disclosure, bug bounty, and red-team programs.
• Build the security organization and oversee governance, compliance, supply-chain security, SBOM practices, and third-party vendor risk.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, including at least 5 years in a security leadership role.
• Experience in a hardware, consumer electronics, IoT, or software-defined product company.
• Deep technical expertise in cloud-native architectures such as AWS or GCP, application security, and connected-device or embedded security.
• Hands-on engineering background with the ability to influence highly technical teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and improve security programs while working across enterprise governance and product threat modeling.
• Executive-level communication skills, including translating technical cyber risks for C-suite leaders, board members, and enterprise partners.
• Strong knowledge of SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits, data governance, and privacy frameworks.
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent practical experience.
• Passion for reinventing electrical panels, decarbonizing the residential sector, and accelerating clean-energy adoption.

• Leadership certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA.
