Research Associate I / II, Multiomics (12 Month Contract)

Location: Cambridge, UK

Salary: RA I £14.85–£19.55 per hour; RA II £17.35–£22.85 per hour. Exact compensation varies based on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Support a state-of-the-art multiomics facility and its genomics workflows, including Illumina and Nanopore sequencing, bulk RNA/DNA library preparation, and single-cell methods such as 10x Genomics and Parse Bio.
• Provide technical assistance with sequencers, laboratory automation, molecular biology techniques, and experimental design for single-cell studies.
• Maintain sequencing, single-cell isolation, qPCR, DNA extraction, automation, and quality-control instrumentation.
• Manage vendor relationships, purchase consumables and reagents, and maintain laboratory stock.
• Write SOPs and risk assessments, maintain electronic laboratory records, and contribute to research-result dissemination.
• Communicate workflows and new ideas while collaborating with the Innovation Hub and global research community.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in a relevant field such as molecular biology or biochemistry.
• Laboratory operations and workflow experience in a genomics laboratory or hub/core facility.
• Hands-on knowledge of common library-preparation and sequencing technologies.
• Knowledge of designing single-cell experiments, including methods and workflow scheduling.
• First-hand experience with NGS library preparation, especially total/mRNA plate-based workflows and 10x Genomics single-cell workflows.
• Experience with DNA/RNA extraction and measurement techniques, including Qubit and TapeStation.
• Experience with genomics-focused liquid handlers, automation, single-cell genomics methods, and LIMS/data management.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a small team.
• RA I requires 0–2 years of relevant experience; RA II requires 2–4 years of relevant experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with single-cell isolation and/or spatial-omics technologies.
