Senior Specialist, Systems Administrator

Location: Melbourne, Australia; 100% onsite. Travel within Australia to data centre locations, customer and partner sites, and remote site audits may be required.

What you will do

• Configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise data centre environments using Cisco UCS and NetApp AFF/FAS, or VMware vSAN and Cohesity solutions.
• Administer Red Hat Linux, Windows, VMware, virtualization platforms, identity management tools, servers, storage, and system-wide software.
• Manage VM lifecycles, system patching, upgrades, performance, capacity, backups, disk configurations, and disaster recovery activities.
• Translate requirements into product designs with engineering teams and internal or external customers; lead scheduled changes to production systems.
• Diagnose project-impacting issues, develop mitigation actions, and support critical operations during standard and occasional non-standard hours.
• Contribute to an enterprise network modernization initiative supporting Australia’s air traffic management infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, IT security, or a related field plus at least 6 years of related experience, or a master’s degree plus at least 4 years of related experience.
• 4–6 years of Red Hat Linux administration or engineering experience and 4–6 years of Windows administration or engineering experience.
• Experience configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting VMware or other virtualization technologies across multiple locations, including VM lifecycle management and snapshots.
• Experience with enterprise identity management tools such as LDAP, IPA, or Active Directory.
• Ability to develop detailed implementation documentation, support on-call rotations, and travel to data centre locations when remote access is unavailable.
• Ability to obtain Australian Defence security clearance to Baseline and likely NV1 levels.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Australian citizenship and successful completion of the required security clearance or ITAR assessment may be required for many roles.
• This position is performed 100% onsite.

Nice to have

• Experience with NetApp FAS/AFF storage controllers, Cisco UCS blade and rackmount servers, VMware virtualization, or Cisco HyperFlex.
• NetApp, Cisco, VMware, or related professional certifications.
• Knowledge of Bash, PowerShell, Perl, Ansible, or other scripting and automation tools.
• Experience with VDI solutions such as Omnissa Horizon.
