Machine Learning Research Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the Continental United States

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and evaluate applied AI solutions across natural language, computer vision, recommendation, and structured-data domains.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into ML formulations with measurable success criteria and rigorous evaluation strategies.
• Build production-quality training and inference pipelines using modern ML frameworks and orchestration tools.
• Optimize models for accuracy, latency, throughput, and cost while collaborating with ML platform engineers on compute and accelerator resources.
• Develop tooling for dataset construction, labeling, validation, and data-quality monitoring.
• Partner with product, design, and domain experts; document findings; mentor engineers; and influence the AI roadmap.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent applied experience.
• Six or more years of combined research and applied ML engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience training, fine-tuning, evaluating, and deploying deep learning models at non-trivial scale.
• Knowledge of mathematics, statistics, modern ML theory, distributed training, mixed-precision training, and accelerator hardware.
• Must work as a full-time W2 employee in the Continental United States; no C2C, 1099, or third-party arrangements. No new H1B sponsorship is available, but qualified candidates with a valid H1B may receive transfer support.

Nice to have

• Published research at top-tier AI/ML venues.
• Experience with large language model training, fine-tuning, or evaluation.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, agentic systems, multimodal architectures, or responsible AI practices.
• Experience contributing to open-source ML projects.
