Principal Java Developer (Fullstack)

Location: 100% remote within the United States.

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 annually.

What you will do

• Architect, design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade web applications and distributed systems operating at significant scale.
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and write production-quality code throughout the full engineering lifecycle.
• Build cloud-native services and support them through production operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Develop Java and Spring-based backend services, RESTful APIs, microservices, and responsive React applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, DevOps engineers, and developers in an Agile environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• 12 or more years of professional software development experience building production-grade enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, computational complexity, and end-to-end system design.
• Advanced working knowledge of Java 11 or 17, Spring Boot, and clean, idiomatic RESTful API design.
• Production experience designing and operating microservices, including service decomposition, inter-service communication, and observability.
• Production experience developing front-end applications with React; strong familiarity with Angular or Vue is a plus.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server, including query tuning and schema design.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling, Git-based workflows, branching strategies, code reviews, and release management.
• Experience deploying applications to AWS, Azure, or GCP, including managed services, networking, and identity primitives.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills, with clear technical documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent streaming platforms.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to eventual consistency, CAP trade-offs, idempotency, and saga patterns.
• Experience writing automation tests and contributing to test-driven or behavior-driven development.
