Design Engineer (Fintech)

Location: On-site in New York City or Palo Alto, United States. Must live in or be willing to relocate to Palo Alto, California, or New York City.

hirify.global is building a vertically integrated mortgage platform that turns mortgage origination into a single API for lenders, borrowers, and originators.

What you will do

• Design and build borrower applications, borrower dashboards, loan officer tools, and embeddable customer components directly in production code.
• Own the design system, including tokens, typography, color, spacing, component libraries, theming, and reusable patterns.
• Simplify complex mortgage workflows and dense data through layout, hierarchy, interaction, motion, and clear regulated-market experiences.
• Prototype with real code and data, test with borrowers, loan officers, and customers, and iterate quickly.
• Handle responsive behavior, states, edge cases, loading and empty states, keyboard interactions, accessibility, and production quality.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers, provide feedback, and use AI and agentic coding tools from exploration through production.

Requirements

• 3+ years as a product designer who codes, design engineer, or frontend engineer who makes design decisions.
• Portfolio of live products or working prototypes demonstrating excellent visual and interaction work.
• Strong fundamentals in typography, layout, hierarchy, color, interaction, and motion, with strong opinions about craft and the ability to explain design decisions.
• Fluency in React, TypeScript, semantic HTML, and modern CSS, with the ability to ship production-quality frontend code.
• Experience building or leading a design system or component library, including tokens and theming.
• Comfort using Figma to explore ideas, plus a strong grasp of accessibility and responsive design.
• Experience using AI and agentic coding tools in design work.
• Ability to learn mortgage well enough to design confidently in a regulated market involving disclosures, consent, and accessibility.
• Must be willing to work in the office in New York City or Palo Alto; must live in or be willing to relocate to Palo Alto or New York City.

Nice to have

• Experience designing data-heavy or workflow-heavy products, especially in fintech, lending, or another regulated industry.
