Design Engineer (React)

Location: Hybrid, four days per week in either the San Francisco or Mountain View office.

Base salary: $115,000–$190,000 annually. Certain roles may also be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and build polished product experiences across web, desktop, and mobile applications, including micro-interactions, motion, and complete feature surfaces.
• Evolve the design system through components, tokens, usage rules, documentation, governance, and adoption.
• Make the design system AI-ready by authoring rules, linting, and guidelines for AI coding agents.
• Build a product design skill for coding agents that encodes Glean’s design judgment.
• Set the frontend craft standard through prototypes, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration with designers and engineers.
• Rapidly prototype interaction and motion concepts to resolve design questions in code.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience spanning product design and frontend engineering, or exceptional depth in one discipline with strong fluency in the other.
• Expertise in modern web UI using TypeScript, React, and CSS.
• Strong instincts for motion, interaction detail, and accessibility.
• Experience building or maintaining a design system at scale, including components, tokens, governance, and adoption.
• Experience using coding agents and informed opinions on producing high-quality UI with AI-assisted development.
• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual and interaction craft.
• Self-directed approach to identifying and resolving polish gaps without waiting for a specification.
