Manager of Bioinformatics (Oncology Product Development)

Location: US Remote

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Lead bioinformatics contributions to oncology product development from design through validation and commercial launch.
• Optimize workflows, tools, and analysis pipelines for diagnostic tests, including cancer-associated variant detection and evidence-based quality-control thresholds.
• Manage bioinformaticians and data scientists, prioritize resources, and support technical and professional development.
• Contribute to experiment design, data analysis, interpretation, intellectual property, and high-quality technical documentation.
• Collaborate with biostatistics, molecular biology, software engineering, and commercial teams.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, or a similar quantitative discipline.
• 4–8 years of post-graduate experience in data science and/or bioinformatics, including 1–3 years as a technical lead in diagnostics or a related field.
• Experience moving algorithm-based products through commercialization and launch in medical or biological applications such as diagnostic testing, medical imaging, or biotechnology.
• 1–2 years of management experience leading a technical team, with demonstrable leadership and team-management skills.
• Experience using Python or R for scientific data analysis and visualization.
• Strong foundation in statistical modeling and machine learning, including probability theory and estimation/classification methods.
• Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data, preferably including algorithm development or optimization.
• Ability to apply mathematical principles to solve real estimation problems and implement practical solutions.
• Experience leading technical projects, defining and meeting milestones, delegating tasks to junior team members, and ensuring the quality of technical deliverables.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and independent judgment skills.

• Prior experience analyzing cancer-associated variant detection data.
