Senior Data Engineer

Location: Toronto, Canada; Calgary is listed as another location. The role follows a hybrid workstyle aligned to an hirify.global office, with in-person collaboration based on client, team, development, or relationship-building needs.

Salary: CAD 79,000–136,700 annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.

What you will do

• Create and maintain dimensional and 3NF data models aligned with business requirements.
• Design and develop ETL pipelines that consolidate data from multiple source systems into unified data platforms, including source-to-target mappings, business rules, and transformations.
• Develop semantic models, reports, and dashboards based on business requirements.
• Facilitate business requirements sessions and perform data analysis to define the data needed for business objectives.
• Collaborate with clients and team members across regions, including through virtual teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Math, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Analytics.
• At least 3 years of experience designing data models across multiple subject areas and business domains, designing and developing business intelligence solutions, and designing and developing scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data into data lakes and data warehouses.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with Python or Scala.
• Proven experience with a major cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with Fabric, Databricks, or Snowflake; Git, DevOps, CI/CD, and version control; and BI visualization tools such as Power BI, QuickSight, or Tableau.
• Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work in a team, independently, and in virtual teams.
• Passion for solving complex business problems through data-driven solutions.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience conducting solution or technical assessments.
• Experience with dbt, Spark, and Big Data technologies.
• Knowledge of Databricks.
• Working knowledge of modern information management tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Talend, Alation, or Purview.
