Data Solutions Architect (Microsoft Fabric)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (remote-first; flexible work hours and location)

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership across cloud data technologies, including tool selection, engineering issue resolution, and best-practice guidance.
• Architect and implement end-to-end data platforms on Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Factory, and OneLake components.
• Lead technical discovery and whiteboard sessions, translate requirements into deliverables and technical roadmaps, and produce solution designs, data flow diagrams, and runbooks.
• Build and optimize batch and real-time data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Engineering workloads.
• Define data governance, lineage, data quality, monitoring, remediation, access control, and auditability across data platforms.
• Lead and mentor data engineering teams, manage engagement scope, identify technical risks, and maintain trusted customer relationships.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data or solutions architecture roles with hands-on delivery, preferably with Azure.
• Deep practical expertise in Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks, and OneLake.
• Strong proficiency with the Azure data stack: Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, ADLS Gen2, and Azure SQL.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Spark/PySpark for data transformation and SQL for analytical workloads.
• Hands-on Microsoft Purview experience covering data cataloguing, lineage, classification, and governance policy enforcement.
• Experience implementing data quality frameworks, including expectations, anomaly detection, and lineage-aware testing.
• Experience building complex data engineering pipelines, ETL/ELT tasks, batch processing systems, real-time processing systems, data warehouses, data lakes, and unified analytics platforms.
• Experience with relational databases or managed cloud RDBMS services and with NoSQL databases.
• Experience with at least 3 of the following: real-time streaming, analytics and BI solutions, AI/ML solutions and model operations, caching systems, or object stores.
• Ability to design solutions involving data lineage, quality gates, anonymization, governance, security, replication, caching, lifecycle management, catalogs, and networking; understanding of HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, PIPEDA, or similar compliance frameworks.
• Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, technical documentation, and mentoring skills.
• Experience in customer-facing delivery within a consulting or professional services environment.

• Experience with Microsoft Purview and Foundry.
