Senior Data Engineer (AWS)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work from home or the office based on business and client needs. Other location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Base Pay: CAD 100,000–143,000 annually.

What you will do

• Maintain a complex data repository supporting user behavior analytics, reporting, insights, and information security use cases.
• Develop AWS Glue and Lambda jobs in Python to parse security logs and build usable data formats.
• Design, maintain, and improve data models, metadata, ETL processes, data quality controls, dashboards, reports, and ad hoc data requests.
• Build user-level data capabilities for threat intelligence, internal threat identification, predictive modeling, and deep-dive analytics.
• Manage business data requests, proofs of concept, productionization, and small to medium projects from planning through post-implementation review.
• Collaborate with IT, Information Security, analytics, and business stakeholders; provide data stewardship and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data management, analytics, modeling, programming, and database-associated development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, another highly quantitative field, or 5+ years of relevant data and analytics/modeling experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting data management solutions, including importing, cleaning, transforming, validating, quality assurance, and data modeling.
• At least intermediate proficiency in Python, Spark, Glue, Lambda, HQL, or similar technologies.
• Experience with data preparation, querying, reporting, data modeling, cloud data warehouses, data pipelines, and ETL tools; AWS experience is preferred.
• Understanding of analytics data requirements, data discovery, security-related data sources and log types, and business data needs.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex data concepts to non-technical audiences and analytics concepts to IT audiences.
• Ability to manage competing demands, changes, and delays while remaining organized, accountable, and committed to deadlines.
• Ability to take ownership, make timely decisions, drive POCs from ideation to production, collaborate on business insights, and advocate for clients.
