Facilities Manager (Contract) (Biotech)

Location: On-site in Palo Alto, California, five days per week.

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and performance-manage facilities and inventory staff.
• Own safety inspections, EH&S programs, hazardous materials and waste management, and compliance activities for clinical and research laboratories.
• Manage building maintenance vendors, property management, physical security, laboratory equipment readiness, and daily office operations.
• Support space planning, laboratory and office build-outs, vendor bids, contract awards, and negotiations for a new headquarters.
• Oversee ERP/MRP inventory operations, including receipts, reorder points, adjustments, cycle counts, and period-end close.
• Manage manufacturing work orders, specimen receipt, MSS/MRB processes, supplier corrective actions, audits, SOPs, and process improvements supporting commercial launch.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, EH&S, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 6+ years; or equivalent.
• 5+ years of facilities and/or inventory management experience in a life-sciences, biotech, or diagnostics laboratory environment.
• 2+ years of directly managing and developing a team.
• EH&S training or certification and working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, hazardous materials and waste, and fire-code requirements.
• Hands-on ERP/MRP-based inventory management experience, including cycle counts, inventory adjustments, and period-end close.
• Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance.
• Experience leading internal and external facilities or inventory management audits.
• Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, cross-functional collaboration, relationship-building, and written and presentation communication skills.

Nice to have

• Hazardous materials and waste certification, such as DOT/RCRA hazardous waste training.
• Experience in a CLIA/CAP- or ISO 13485-regulated environment.
• Experience with laboratory or office build-outs or relocations, including vendor bids and contract negotiation.
• Experience managing facilities or inventory teams across multiple sites.
