TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer (Fusion Energy): Designing and commissioning electrical hardware for next-generation fusion-energy R&D and processing equipment with an accent on 480VAC power distribution, electrical safety, signal integrity, instrumentation, and control-panel architecture. Focus on developing compliant schematics and safety systems, mitigating EMI/EMC issues in high-power magnetic environments, and bringing first-of-a-kind machinery online through hands-on testing and controls integration.
Location: Milpitas, California, United States; on-site
Company
hirify.global develops next-generation fusion-energy technology and related R&D and processing equipment.
What you will do
Design complete electrical architectures for complex R&D tools, including 480VAC power distribution, low-voltage DC systems, cable harnesses, power conditioning, and control-reliable safety systems.
Create, modify, and approve AutoCAD Electrical schematic packages, panel layouts, I/O diagrams, terminal blocks, cable schedules, and wire-harness documentation in accordance with NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A.
Integrate power supplies, circuit protection, VFDs, servo drives, safety relays, thermocouples, pressure transducers, vacuum gauges, and flow meters.
Design grounding, shielding, and isolation solutions for signal integrity and EMI/EMC mitigation in high-power, high-magnetic-field environments.
Lead shop-floor electrical testing, ring-out, power-up, I/O checkout, commissioning, troubleshooting, and electrical fault isolation.
Support controls integration, external panel shops, electrical contractors, component BOMs, and Factory Acceptance Testing.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
8+ years of dedicated electrical engineering experience designing power distribution, electrical cabinets, and hardware architectures for complex industrial or R&D capital equipment.
Expert proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical for schematic generation, panel layouts, terminal-block design, and wire-harness documentation.
Deep understanding of 480VAC three-phase systems, transformer sizing, short-circuit current ratings, arc-flash safety, NFPA 79, NEC/NFPA 70, and UL 508A.
Experience solving EMI/EMC, noise-coupling, grounding, and signal-integrity challenges in complex electromechanical tools.
Working knowledge of PLC architectures such as Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, or Siemens; EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP; and safety PLCs including TwinSAFE.
High proficiency in hands-on hardware troubleshooting, field wiring, commissioning, and electrical fault isolation on the machine floor.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and perform stooping, climbing, standing, and extended sitting.
Willingness to travel or occasionally work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts; commitment to working safely around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
Nice to have
Experience with semiconductor tools, high-vacuum systems, or high-temperature processing equipment.
Experience with high-current DC power supplies, magnetics, or cryogenic instrumentation.
Ability to write and debug IEC 61131-3 Structured Text or Python scripts for hardware testbeds.
Exposure to Inductive Automation Ignition or custom operational interfaces.
Culture & Benefits
On-site, full-time work with occasional travel and nights, weekends, or on-call requirements.
Competitive compensation with equity.
13 company-wide holidays, flexible vacation days, and 10 sick days.
Generous parental leave and health, dental, and vision insurance.
