Senior Software Developer (Java/Azure)

Location: Hybrid in Alexandria, Virginia, United States of America.

Salary: $70–$77 per hour.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Microsoft Azure.
• Develop RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrations with internal and external systems.
• Build scalable, secure, highly available cloud-native applications and process real-time data from APIs, messaging systems, and external feeds.
• Support deployments, production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, performance optimization, monitoring, and reliability initiatives.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release management, and secure containerized deployments.
• Collaborate with business analysts, architects, infrastructure teams, and developers through architecture discussions, code reviews, documentation, and technical delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed enterprise application integration.
• 5+ years of experience with object-oriented design, design patterns, multithreading, concurrency, asynchronous processing, JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, and third-party API integrations.
• 5+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL, plus application performance, memory utilization, and production troubleshooting.
• 5+ years of experience using Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, and release management.
• 3+ years of experience developing, deploying, and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure.
• 3+ years of experience with Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Container Apps, Azure Container Registry, Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
• 3+ years of experience building CI/CD pipelines and automated testing with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• 3+ years of experience with Maven or Gradle and Docker containerized deployments.
• Industry certification in Azure, Java, or cloud technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments and highly regulated or public-facing environments.
• Experience with real-time data processing and event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of OpenTripPlanner, GTFS, or other geospatial and data integration platforms.
• Experience with Azure networking, including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints, DNS, Front Door, API Management, and Entra ID.
• Experience with cloud security, high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
