Full Stack Engineer (React/Ruby on Rails)

Location: Fully remote, but candidates must be US citizens able to work domestically.

Salary: United States wage range of $100,000–$130,000; salary description of $140,000–$155,000.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack web applications and RESTful APIs.
• Build responsive, accessible, and reusable user interface components with modern front-end frameworks.
• Develop secure backend services, business logic, and application architecture.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and government stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, technical design sessions, and Agile Kanban ceremonies.
• Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and security; troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.

Requirements

• 4+ years of full-stack development experience.
• Strong experience with JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and REST APIs.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and Git workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms; AWS is preferred.
• Understanding of accessibility best practices and web standards, including WCAG and Section 508.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in Agile environments.
• Must be a US citizen and able to work domestically.
• Must be able to attain a low-level security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal agencies.
• Familiarity with JSON Schema Form libraries such as react-jsonschema-form.
• Knowledge of VA.gov architecture and experience building forms on VA.gov.
• Experience with automated testing and 508 scanning tools such as Axe or pa11y.
