Staff Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, United States; Transitional Office AR Bentonville Home Office.

Annual salary: $110,000–$220,000, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design and deliver scalable, resilient backend services and distributed systems using Python, Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
• Lead architecture and technical design for complex applications, integrations, secure platforms, governed AI, and automation.
• Build microservices and event-driven solutions with Kafka, relational and NoSQL databases, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Establish engineering standards for performance, observability, testing, security, reliability, and production readiness.
• Lead architecture and code reviews, troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues, and own solutions through production support.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with engineering, product, architecture, and business teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience building large-scale, highly available enterprise systems.
• Hands-on expertise in Python, Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and backend development.
• Ability to lead system architecture and technical design for complex solutions.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, Kafka, databases, caching, concurrency, partitioning, scalability, and failure recovery.
• Experience with secure integrations, Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, and observability.
• Strong focus on reliability, security, testing, production operations, and resolving complex performance issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including influencing technical direction and mentoring engineers.
• Either a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4 years of software engineering or related experience, or 6 years of such experience.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of software engineering or related experience.
• Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
