Software Development Engineer (Agent-Ready APIs & Data)

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; Flex hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $148,000–$222,000 USD for the primary Pleasanton location; $123,900–$222,000 USD for additional US locations. The role may also include bonus or commission eligibility and annual refresh stock grants.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain product APIs and backend services supporting hirify.global products and agentic experiences.
• Implement routing, validation, authentication and authorization, transformation, error handling, and other robust API behaviors.
• Build high-throughput, low-latency components and integrations with a focus on resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.
• Develop API frameworks and tooling for Product Engineering teams to define, publish, and maintain REST, SOAP, Graph, and other APIs.
• Use metrics, tracing, and logging to improve production performance and reliability; write unit, integration, and contract tests.
• Own small to medium services or API areas end-to-end and collaborate with partner code service and agent development teams through design reviews, documentation, talks, and mentoring.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience building scalable backend services or platforms.
• At least 3 years of experience with TypeScript, Python, or similar languages.
• At least 2 years of experience with web service or API technologies such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML Schema, WSDL, or GraphQL.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot.
• Algorithmic thinking applied to routing, query planning, or data transformation; familiarity with concurrency or multithreading, horizontal scaling, high availability, and fault tolerance.
• Understanding of API gateway responsibilities, API specifications and lifecycle management, including OpenAPI/Swagger, versioning, documentation, authentication, throttling, transformation, and security policies.
• Understanding of unit, integration, contract, and performance testing, with tools such as JUnit, ScalaTest, Postman, Mockito, and coverage tools.
• Experience with Git/GitHub, Gradle, CI, debugging, and profiling; strong communication and collaboration skills across time zones.

Nice to have

• Exposure to cloud-based development, such as AWS or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with MCP or similar integration models.
• Curiosity about agentic AI and interest in building APIs that power AI-driven workflows.
