Principal Mechanical Engineer (Structural Design and Analysis)

Salary: $138,000–$193,000 USD annually for California.

What you will do

• Design and analyze structures for mounting RF phased arrays and other electronic packages.
• Perform finite element analysis on complex mechanical structures and electronic assemblies under static, modal, vibration, shock, and structural-dynamics loads.
• Build finite element models and conduct hand calculations to verify structural integrity across product lines.
• Follow designs and analyses from concept through testing and verification.
• Mentor engineers and serve as the mechanical design and analysis lead on product teams.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to develop electromechanical systems that withstand harsh operational and transport environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or a similar engineering field.
• 8+ years of experience in structural or stress design and analysis of metallic structures.
• Expert-level proficiency in finite element analysis and structural hand calculations.
• Experience with structural analysis and pre/post-processing software such as Nastran, FEMAP, Ansys, Patran, or equivalent.
• Experience analyzing systems under static loading, shock, and vibration environments, including random vibration.
• Experience with CAD and practical application of GD&T.
• Experience with structural testing and qualification of mechanical systems.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations to meet ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience performing stress analysis of electronic systems, including circuit card assemblies.
• Experience designing or analyzing actuated mechanical systems, including azimuth and elevation pointing mechanisms.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.
• Organization and comfort working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and related harsh-environment considerations.
