Senior Software Engineer, Accounts (iGaming)

What you will do

• Design, scale, and performance-tune REST APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries for accounts, authentication, identity verification, fraud and AML screening, compliance, responsible gaming, regulatory reporting, and notifications.
• Own high-scope technical problems, prepare proposals, and present designs to leadership and partner teams.
• Deliver features end-to-end in an agile/scrum environment and integrate internal, legacy, modern, and third-party systems.
• Identify production bottlenecks and risks, improve scalability, and investigate performance regressions across CPU, I/O, memory, and latency.
• Configure Datadog monitoring and alerting, manage on-call and release responsibilities, and support operational and cost-efficiency improvements.
• Mentor engineers through specifications, pairing, and code review while collaborating with stakeholders across business domains.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong foundations in computer science, including data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.
• Experience with production systems at scale, load testing, tracing, performance regression remediation, on-call rotations, and end-to-end release ownership.
• Experience with modern web frameworks and API development, including Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Laravel, or Node.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL, and database normalization and denormalization.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerized environments, Git, GitHub or similar tools, and terminal-based development.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent; background job processing; and asynchronous event infrastructure such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
• Experience building authentication, identity, or other regulated systems with strong security and auditability.
• Understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, MFA, and secure PII handling; experience integrating KYC, fraud, geolocation, or messaging providers is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including authoring technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team design documents.

Nice to have

• Experience with Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain-Driven Design, open source contribution, startups, or sports and esports.
• Experience building financial, legal, or process accounting systems with strong correctness and auditability.
• Experience designing GraphQL schemas, multi-client or white-label platforms, geo-based routing, and per-jurisdiction configuration.
• Familiarity with gaming regulations and responsible gaming controls, including AGCO and DGE.
• Experience with agentic software development tools, workflows, and validation of agentic outputs.
