Benefits Manager

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, communication, and administration of medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, wellness, 401(k), FSA, and voluntary benefit programs.
• Manage benefit providers, consultants, brokers, and administrators, including contract negotiations, performance oversight, service quality, cost effectiveness, and issue escalation.
• Analyze plan coverage, utilization, market practices, employee needs, industry trends, benefit costs, and budget impacts to recommend benefit strategies.
• Lead annual benefits and 401(k) open enrollment, including planning, communications, system configuration and testing, coordination, reporting, and issue resolution.
• Oversee federal and state compliance, reporting, filings, audits, and regulatory obligations, including ACA reporting and Form 5500 filings.
• Advise HR, leaders, employees, and vendors on complex benefit, claims, leave, and administration matters, escalating material compliance risks to senior management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least ten years of progressively responsible benefits experience covering benefit strategy, compliance, administration, and operations.
• Experience managing benefit vendors, consultants, and brokers.
• Thorough knowledge of benefit administration and federal and state requirements, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ACA.
• Experience supporting interactions, filings, audits, or inquiries involving the IRS and U.S. Department of Labor.
• Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including benefit-cost analysis, trend identification, profit-and-loss and budget-impact evaluation, and actionable reporting.
• Strong project management, organization, complex problem-solving, independent judgment, discretion, confidentiality, service orientation, and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex benefit matters to employees and leaders at all levels.
• Proficiency with HR information systems, benefit administration platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Experience supporting a fast-paced, complex organization.
• Professional certification or specialized coursework in employee benefits, human resources, or a related field.
• Advanced Excel skills.
