Mechanical Design Engineer (Oceanographic Instruments)

Company

Teledyne Valeport designs and manufactures oceanographic, hydrographic, and hydrometric instruments entirely in-house, covering design, CNC machining, environmental testing, assembly, calibration, and servicing.

What you will do

• Design and develop the mechanical aspects of next-generation products for existing and future markets.
• Create 3D solid models and technical drawings for manufacture.
• Use CAD facilities including 3D photo-rendering and rapid prototyping.
• Provide mechanical problem-solving support to the production department.
• Potentially develop technical expertise in FEA and CFD design simulation.

Requirements

• Level 5 or 6 qualification in a mechanical engineering subject, such as an HND or degree.
• Experience in a relevant role.
• Competency in 3D solid modelling and detail drafting for manufacture.
• Ability to self-manage work.
• Ability to communicate with internal staff, suppliers, and end customers.
• Practical mechanical aptitude, good attention to detail, and an interest in developing design ideas using current CAD technology.
• Good interpersonal skills for liaising with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.

Nice to have

• Competency in SolidWorks 3D solid modelling and drafting.
• Experience building complex assemblies and performing machining or fitting work.
• Experience with moulded products, resins, plastics, adhesives, or optomechanical equipment design.
