Junior Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Sterling, Virginia, United States; other locations include Aurora, Colorado, and Sterling, Virginia.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Python backend services, scripts, endpoints, and system interfaces.
• Implement data connectors, API endpoints, and messaging interfaces for reliable service-to-service data flow.
• Write unit and integration tests, improve coverage, and support continuous verification.
• Investigate, reproduce, and fix defects in test and development environments with senior-engineer guidance.
• Package applications in Docker containers and assist with Kubernetes test-cluster deployments using Helm charts and CI/CD pipelines.
• Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and peer feedback.

Requirements

• Active or current Top-Secret (TS) security clearance is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience developing backend applications or scripts.
• Solid Python programming fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, and clean functions, plus basic Bash scripting for task automation.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL querying, joining, and updating tables, with conceptual familiarity with Redis or in-memory caching.
• Basic experience writing Dockerfiles and running containerized services locally, plus familiarity with Kubernetes fundamentals.
• Practical Git experience, including branching, merging, resolving basic conflicts, pull requests, and running automated tests in CI/CD workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity about underlying systems, and a proactive approach to learning and receiving feedback.

Nice to have

• Active or current TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Privileged User eligibility through CompTIA Security+, DoD 8570 IAT Level II, or equivalent.
• Experience deploying or debugging applications with Helm on Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs or lightweight backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Exposure to message brokers or pub/sub concepts, including Redis pub/sub or RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, automated linting, or security scans.
