Senior AI Developer (AI Agents)

Location: Montreal, Canada. Remote and/or hybrid work may be available depending on the position.

Salary: CAD 97,000–160,000 per year, plus possible annual bonus.

What you will do

• Build and own a domain-specific assistant agent from design through release and field operation on the xUI platform.
• Design robust LLM function-calling and tool interfaces for vehicle actions such as climate control, music playback, and navigation.
• Make agents operate across cloud and edge environments using a shared codebase.
• Integrate prompting, retrieval, tool selection, and non-linear conversation handling into product behaviour.
• Maintain quality through automated testing, behavioural evaluation, and measurable bug reduction.
• Collaborate with product to translate UX intentions into agent behaviour and contribute to AI-assisted agentic engineering practices.

Requirements

• Production experience building and owning a service long enough to take responsibility for design decisions.
• Strong Python skills.
• Experience using LLMs as building blocks, including prompting, tool integration, and evaluation of non-deterministic behaviour.
• Strong quality orientation, including writing tests, conducting thoughtful reviews, and raising difficult design questions early.
• Comfort working on an evolving platform where solutions may not always be documented.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and explain technical trade-offs to non-specialists.

Nice to have

• Deep TypeScript or Node.js expertise.
• Experience adapting language models through fine-tuning or reinforcement learning.
• Exposure to embedded or edge constraints, including limited memory, no network access, and strict latency requirements.
• Experience with voice technologies, conversational interfaces, or automotive software.
• Hands-on use of AI coding agents in a personal development workflow.
