Senior Full-Stack AI Engineer (LLM/Agentic Systems)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid

Salary: CA$122,835–CA$180,000 base pay annually; equity is offered.

What you will do

• Design, build, and ship full-stack features for Alfie, owning work from data models and APIs through to the user experience.
• Build and operate TypeScript or Python backend services with Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes, and APIs supporting agentic workflows.
• Develop React/TypeScript conversational and streaming interfaces with strong product quality and user experience.
• Apply prompt design, tool and function calling, multi-step agent reasoning, and evaluation to shape assistant behavior.
• Design recovery paths, human-in-the-loop handoffs, and experiences for uncertainty or failure; build observability and evaluation into production AI systems.
• Troubleshoot backend, frontend, and AI-specific production issues; mentor junior engineers and contribute to design and code reviews.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience with substantial backend and frontend depth.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or Python and strong experience building database-backed services with Postgres or a similar relational database, including schema design, query writing, and performance understanding.
• Strong command of modern frontend development with React/TypeScript, including integration with backend services, APIs, and real-time or streaming data.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience building LLM-powered or agentic products, including agent reasoning, tool use, and returning control to users.
• Experience shipping a conversational AI interface such as a chatbot, copilot, or assistant used by real end users.
• Solid understanding of LLM design patterns, prompt engineering, and observability or instrumentation for agentic systems.
• Experience building and deploying services in a containerized Kubernetes-based environment or comparable orchestration, plus comfort with AWS.
• Solid computer science fundamentals and system design skills, including data structures, APIs, architecture, and trade-offs at scale.
• Track record of building products beyond standard CRUD applications and dashboards, with polished or distinctive user experiences.
• Lean mindset focused on customer value, minimizing waste, optimizing workflows, and iterating quickly on feedback.
• Comfort collaborating in a remote, fast-paced environment and working in an evolving AI-native software space.
