Data Steward (Data Governance/Banking)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; structured hybrid work from home or the Bucharest office. Business travel to Belgium is required.

What you will do

• Perform data governance activities with CDO and data privacy teams, including data usage agreements, processing records, business impact assessments, and data privacy impact assessments.
• Onboard data sources to the Data Lake, define business terms in the Information Governance Catalogue, assign privacy classifications, and support data model implementation for reporting.
• Execute and monitor data quality requirements for the Belgium Collection organization, define quality rules, analyze root causes, and implement solutions.
• Apply data security and retention controls, coordinate source retention activities, and support data clean-up.
• Maintain data inventories and lineage information, supporting Data Owners with data access, modification, and storage overviews.
• Review regulatory requirements such as GDPR and BCBS239, support controls and audits, maintain documentation, perform analyses, and resolve end-user issues with international stakeholders.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with data governance activities.
• Hands-on experience gathering requirements and writing functional specifications.
• Hands-on experience with SAS Programming and SAS Enterprise Guide.
• Hands-on experience with business intelligence software such as IBM Cognos Analytics or Microsoft Power BI.
• Experience working with databases and data warehouses.
• Analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with the ability to understand complex system architectures and data structures.
• Experience with banking products, processes, and services, together with a customer experience mindset.
• Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Availability for business travel to Belgium.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or Business.

Nice to have

• Ability to use SQL for medium-complexity reporting and database manipulation queries.
• Experience creating workflow diagrams and conceptual or logical data models.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment.
• French language skills.
