Publishing Director, Civil & Mechanical Engineering

Location: Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen, China. Candidates must have the right to work in China.

What you will do

• Lead PMG-level strategic planning, target setting, and delivery for Engineering in collaboration with strategy, marketing, society, finance, and senior management teams.
• Manage and develop Publishers while growing an international journal portfolio across Engineering and related subject areas.
• Build networks with high-level scientific and industry stakeholders and monitor research, policy, customer, and industry trends.
• Coach Publishers on journal development, editorial planning, Editor and Editorial Board performance, stakeholder engagement, and prioritization.
• Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives, business development, and innovation programs.
• Resolve publishing-wide issues with senior colleagues and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Senior-level relevant publishing experience with a deep understanding of journal development. Experience across multiple subject fields and an international perspective is preferred.
• Strong understanding of the global publishing industry and related industry, research, and policy drivers.
• Demonstrated ability to build a network of high-level contacts within the scientific community and translate customer needs into data-driven strategy.
• Track record of building productive internal relationships, leading or collaborating with project teams, creating visibility for a team, and providing expert support.
• Experience leading and developing successful teams across multiple or international locations, including hiring, developing, and retaining colleagues; setting goals; fostering innovation; supporting strategic planning; navigating implementation challenges; assigning responsibilities; involving direct reports in budgets and plans; managing financial performance; and achieving annual targets.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, enthusiasm, collaboration, psychologically appropriate spaces, and diversity across the team.
• Experience leading or overseeing business strategy, product development, and external client pitches, with demonstrated creativity in developing commercially viable opportunities for the scientific community.
