Senior Manager, Data Engineering (AI)

What you will do

• Lead, hire, develop, and retain a team of data engineers while setting expectations, providing feedback, and building career paths.
• Set the data platform roadmap, align priorities with company objectives, manage trade-offs, and deliver cross-team projects on time and on budget.
• Own the target architecture for ingestion, modeling, semantic layers, governance, reliable pipelines, metric definitions, and source-traceable agent-ready data.
• Direct the design and delivery of secure serving layers and APIs with appropriate authorization, access controls, auditability, and PII handling.
• Evaluate data platform and tooling vendors, negotiate contracts within the approval limit, and manage warehouse and tooling costs.
• Partner with finance, operations, sales, marketing, product, capital markets, and accounting to define data needs and provide recommendations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software or data engineering, including 5+ years managing engineers.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineers and building strong teams.
• Enterprise data architecture experience covering warehouses, modeling, lineage, governance, and architecture reviews.
• Hands-on experience with a modern warehouse and transformation framework such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or dbt, plus SQL and sufficient fluency in one backend language such as Python to review and contribute to code.
• Demonstrated agentic engineering beyond prompting, including using coding agents and introducing agentic practices to a team.
• Working knowledge of production APIs, authorization, access control, and PII handling.
• Experience delivering multi-team data platform projects, including deciding what not to build.
• Experience building consensus with partners outside engineering, including finance, capital markets, and accounting.
• Experience preparing governed data for AI consumers with answers traceable to their source, as well as evaluating vendors and negotiating contracts.
