Director of PR & Communications (AI Legal Tech)

Location: New York City, United States. Hybrid work model with an expectation of 3–4 days per week in the office. Financial relocation support is available for a move to New York City.

Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year. Equity included.

Its affiliated AI-native law firm, Norm Law, advises institutions across private funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate, registered funds, and financial regulation.

What you will do

• Build an integrated communications strategy covering media relations, executive communications, public affairs, thought leadership, and reputation management for Norm and Norm Law.
• Shape the Norm Law narrative around its differentiated model, practice-area expertise, client value, and role in the future of legal services.
• Translate company, founder, executive, and partner expertise into social content, essays, op-eds, speeches, talking points, and public positions.
• Build relationships with business, technology, AI, legal, and policy reporters while managing proactive outreach, inbound requests, interviews, and follow-up.
• Prepare executives and partners through briefing materials, preparation sessions, interviews, spokesperson guidance, and consistent messaging.
• Establish communications operating processes and manage agencies, partner opportunities, approvals, escalations, client confidentiality, professional obligations, and reputational risk.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience leading PR, corporate communications, executive communications, public affairs, or media relations.
• Experience serving as a trusted communications adviser to founders, executives, senior partners, or other high-profile subject-matter experts.
• Exceptional writing and editorial judgment, including ghostwriting executive or partner social content, speeches, essays, op-eds, and bylines.
• Strong media instincts, experience building productive relationships with top-tier reporters, and experience managing external agencies.
• Judgment in navigating sensitive topics, client confidentiality, reputational risk, complex approvals, and highly scrutinized claims.
• Ability to translate technical, legal, regulatory, or policy-heavy subjects into clear and compelling public narratives.
• Strong operational ownership and ability to build effective systems in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
• Practical, hands-on use of AI in day-to-day work, with the ability to demonstrate tools, workflows, and outcomes during interviews.

• Experience supporting a law firm, legal-services organization, professional-services business, or other partner-led environment.
• Familiarity with AI, legal technology, financial services, government, or regulation.
• An established network across business, technology, AI, legal, policy, or government media.
• Experience supporting major company milestones, law-firm launches, practice-area growth, fundraising announcements, or regulatory developments.
