2027 Future Talent Program - Discovery Chemistry & Process Research - Intern (Pharmaceutical Research)

Location: Boston, MA; Rahway, NJ; West Point, PA; or South San Francisco, CA. US and Puerto Rico residents only. Full-time onsite internship for approximately 10–12 weeks from May to August 2027; no relocation.

Salary range: $39,108–$111,111.

What you will do

• Work in an organic synthesis laboratory on challenging synthetic chemistry problems relevant to pharmaceutical research and development.
• Advance chemical synthesis, reaction development, enabling technologies, and synthetic routes to potential drug candidates.
• Conduct high-throughput and data-rich experimentation, bio- and chemocatalysis screening, laboratory automation, flow chemistry, and labeled compound synthesis as applicable to project needs.
• Apply data science and informatics approaches to reaction optimization and process understanding.
• Participate in departmental and project team meetings as an integrated member of multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks, follow safe laboratory practices, and present research results orally and in writing.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or as a graduate student pursuing a master’s or Ph.D. in chemistry.
• At least two years of bachelor’s-level study completed by June 2027.
• Availability to work full-time for approximately 10–12 weeks from May through August 2027.
• Approval from the principal investigator before applying.
• If selected for an interview, readiness to provide letters of recommendation, a brief research statement, and transcripts.

Nice to have

• Strong interest in organic chemistry and its application to pharmaceutical research and development.
• Basic laboratory skills and prior research experience with standard experimental techniques and electronic laboratory notebook documentation.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
