R&D PhD Summer Intern (Hair Care)

Location: Mason, Ohio, United States; onsite in the office 5 days a week. The 12-week internship runs from May or early June through August 2027.

Starting pay: $61.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Lead upstream innovation projects investigating product properties together with consumer hair properties.
• Study how soil affects shampoo and conditioner performance to understand fundamental mechanisms and generate new insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to gather and interpret data that drives product innovation.
• Develop and propose R&D solutions that improve the performance and consumer benefits of hair-care products.
• Apply modeling skills to build datasets supporting product superiority.

Requirements

• Be a Ph.D. candidate in a STEM field such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
• Have publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Have expertise in colloid science and surfactant/cationic polymer coacervation.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Be passionate about hands-on experimental work and demonstrate a track record of leading innovation.
• Be a team player able to work in a multifunctional organization.
• Be available for a 12-week internship from May or early June through August 2027 and work five days per week onsite in Mason, Ohio.

Nice to have

• Expertise in surface science and surface measurements.
• Experience applying machine learning, data science, generative AI, and large language modeling to real-world problems.
